Once favoured by smugglers and illicit distillers, Mortlach is relatively new to the single malt whisky scene. It's complex flavours are very popular with blenders, leaving little to be bottled under it's own name.
While most Scotch whisky is double distilled, a fifth of Mortlach's spirit is triple distilled in a smaller still called 'The Wee Witchie,' probably because it looks like a witches hat.
The end result of the ex-bourbon and ex-sherry cask maturation is a complex, fruity dram that's best savoured.
Cinnamon, dried fruits, raisin and pear.
Vanilla, cocoa and butter mixed with toffee, fruit, malt and a hint of spice.
