The fruit for this wine was sourced from our vineyards in South Eastern Australia. The climate is hot with high evaporation rates and generally low rainfall, making irrigation essential. The climate is also continental, resulting in long sunny days and noticeably cooler nights. Long sunshine hours ensure fruit ripens fully and low relative humidity results in little incidence of disease.
WINEMAKING The soft and velvety Merlot combined with the more powerful Cabernet Sauvignon grapes produces a luscious red wine. The fruit for this wine was picked just as the grapes flavours were at their prime. Harvest was carried out in the cool of the evening and the fruit was crushed and fermented on skins delivering the rich colour. The wine was then matured in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, before filtering and bottling.
TASTING NOTES The McGuigan Private Bin 2016 Cabernet Merlot displays luscious flavours of blackcurrant, spiced fruit, mint and bramble with rich layers of cinnamon and vanilla. A generous, mouth-filling wine with rich spicy fruit and oak characters, soft tannins and a lingering sweet finish. It is the perfect accompaniment to succulent lamb, beef or chicken dishes.
